SYNOPSIS

Brawlin' – A Graphic Novel

(2011)

Brawlin' is a universal story of hope and challenge – transformation and redemption, a graphic novel that follows one teen's harrowing experiences inside a notorious Chicago Juvenile Detention Center.

Evan Ramsey is a 17 year old Atlanta hip hop dancer who travels to Chicago for an audition and winds up arrested on a trumped-up charge – landing him in the notorious Cook County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC).

While incarcerated, Even is forced to participate in a secretive and illegal fight club, where he must battle other teen inmates for the Guards' amusement. His journey puts him in direct conflict with the vicious Guards, a corrupt administration and a world-on-his-shoulders fight to save his new family.

The script is based on an alarming series of true events that occured in the JDC from roughly 2001 to 2008. A period where incarcerated young people were allegedly forced to survive sexual abuse, physical abuse, and eat rotten food all while fighting for their lives in gladiatorial-style combat.
