Don't let the title fool you. The Little Vampire, based on Angela Sommer-Bodenburg's best selling series of children's books, is a Halloween movie that's less trick than treat, and serves up an appealing bunch of de-fanged vampires streamlined for the PG set. The star of The Little Vampire is nearly ten year old Jonathan Lipnicki, who made a name for himself in Jerry Maguire and Stuart Little. Lipnicki explained how it was more fun than fright starring in The Little Vampire, in which he befriends the local vampires and saves them from humans. The spunky little actor with big glasses, who struggled in his seat to reach over the top of the table, also treated us to a kid's eye view of Hollywood.

Q: Hey, those are pretty cool shades you're wearing.
A: Thanks!
Q: So are you a fan of scary movies?
A: Well some, yes. But if there's not good acting, it ruins the whole scary part. But if it's good acting, it's good!
Q: What's your favorite?
A: The Sixth Sense. That's a scary movie! It scared my sister for a week.
Q: How long did it scare you?
A: Hmm... One day.
Q: Was it fun to get to fly in the movie?
A: It was really fun to fly, because it really felt like I was flying. Even though you're strapped in a harness.
Q: Is The Little Vampire the movie where you had to run around the most?
A: Yeah. I think I ran so much, that I was tired from it. Like I have to run from a truck, I run with all the vampires, and I jump around a lot. Everything except for swimming.
Q: Have your feelings about vampires changed, now that you've made this movie about them?
A: Not really. Now I know more about what they don't like. I never knew that they did not like garlic. So I learned that. And I learned that they can run fast. When the vampire flies under my door, he's really running very fast.
Q: What's your Halloween costume going to be this year? Are you going as a vampire?
A: How'd you know?
Q: Lucky guess! What do you do for fun?
A: Tease my sister. Just kidding! I like skate boarding and roller blading. And I think I'd like to try surfing.
Q: What do you want to do when you grow up? Do you want to keep doing this for a living?
A: I want to be a vampire when I grow up! No, I want to continue to act.
Q: How come?
A: I like acting, because you could be anyone you want. I mean anyone that's in the script. You can be someone else each time you do a movie. Unless it's a sequel to another movie.
Q: How long have you been into acting?
A: I will have been doing it for five years, as soon as I turn ten.
Q: Speaking of sequels, are you going to be doing Stuart Little 2?
A: Yeah, I'm very excited about it.
Q: What would you like to see happen in the sequel?
A: I'd like to see Stuart and me fall off the Eiffel Tower. Just kidding! No, I'd like to have a big adventure, and I'd like to have a fun time doing it, like the last one.
Q: Lots of people were surprised by how well Stuart Little did. Were you surprised too?
A: Well, I was kind of surprised. But if they had this little ugly mouse on the screen, we would have looked horrible. But they had a good mouse, so that's why it looked good.
Q: What kinds of movies would you like to be in next?
A: Action movies. And I'd like to be in a sequel to Matrix. That'd be so fun. I love watching movies. The only movies I can't watch are X-rated movies, my mom won't let me.
Q: Well, my mom wouldn't be too happy about me seeing them either. What's it like going down that red carpet for movie premieres?
A: Sometimes I get a little nervous when all I see is camera flashes. Because they go "Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan." And I'm like, "where, where, where?" Then they take pictures, and I have to blink like a few times, before I can get those flashes out of my eyes.
Q: How do the other kids you know treat you now that you're a movie star?
A: They used to be a little wild, but now they're at least calming down a little bit. Because they used to be a little too wild.
Q: Do they ask you for your autograph?
A: Yeah. But I'm supposed to be a regular kid at school. Plus I'm not allowed to give autographs there. I just want to be regular at school, with nobody asking me about my movies. And I want friends who like me for who I am, not for what I do.
Q: I hear you have a yellow belt in Brazilian jujitsu.
A: Yup.
Q: So can you chop this table in half?
A: No. What you do is you roll on the ground with people, and you try to get points on them by getting them in certain moves. I'm okay at it, but my mom is the best. My sister used to do martial arts, but now she doesn't want to, because AOL came along.
Q: What's the nicest thing that's ever been said to you about your work?
A: I don't know. But I've had lots of weird questions. The weirdest question I've ever had was in Japan. There they tell your fortune by your blood type. So they asked me, what's your blood type? And I'm like, "I don't know."
Q: Well, now that you're in a vampire movie, you can ask them what their blood type is! Are you going to be in another movie soon, or are you just going to hang out until the next one?
A: Stuart Little 2 is next. I think they're starting to get ready for it right now.
Q: Did you like working with Richard E. Grant in The Little Vampire?
A: Yeah, he was really, really nice. He makes jokes all the time. His funniest joke is when he lights up his farts. Then he threw water balloons and grapes at all the kids there. Luckily I caught the grapes and threw them back at him. That was a really fun time.
