On the set of Jerry Maguire, Tom Cruise bought Jonathan  some remote control toys to keep him entertained between takes. Jonathan said that on the set of the movie everyone was like a big family, and that it was a really great experience for his first film.

In 1997 Jonathan received two awards for his role as Ray Boyd in Jerry Maguire. He was presented with the National Broadcast Film Critics Association award for the Best Child Performance, and the Young Artist Award for the Best Performance in a Feature Film: Actor Age Ten or Under. He was also nominated in the same year for the YoungStar Best Performance by a Young Actor in a Drama Film Award.

Jonathan has always had an interest in baseball, and used to consider it one of his favorite sports. In 1997 he was a batboy in a celebrity All Stars baseball game, afterwards interviewing Ken Griffey Jr. He has also played in celebrity charity baseball games, and sang Take Me Out To The Ballgame on PA, for the Seventh Inning Stretch at Wrigley Field, Chicago, on July 29 2000.

Despite sci-fi TV comedy Meego only running for 13 episodes, in 1998 Jonathan was nominated for the Best Performance by a Young Actor in a Comedy TV Series for his role in the sit-com at the YoungStar Awards.

In 2000, another award was added to Jonathan's collection when he won the YoungStar Award for Best Young Actor/Performance in a motion picture comedy (Stuart Little) giving him a total of three awards before the age of ten! In the same year he was nominated for the Best Performance in a Feature Film - Young Actor Age Ten or Under (Stuart Little) award at the Young Artist Awards.

Although Jonathan is usually called Jonny, he was nicknamed El Fuego on the Jerry Maguire set because of his endless energy, and J.Lip on the Stuart Little sets.

Jonathan enjoys tasting local cuisine when he travels, admitting to having eaten some pretty weird stuff including whale! He says he particularly likes Chinese and Japanese food though, and his favorite fast food place is In 'n' Out.

Jonathan's 10th birthday fell on the same day as the world premiere of The Little Vampire. Jonny, along with the rest of the cast and crew, enjoyed a birthday cake with a picture of Tony, Jonathan's character, on.

Jonathan was titled one of the heroes of 2001 by JDRF for his wonderful contributions to the charity. JDRF is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Jonathan first became interested in the charity after learning that the Stuart Little producer's daughter had the condition. Jonathan continues to support and be involved with the charity.

Jonathan has made public speeches on behalf of JDRF, as well as in support of stem cell research. Jonathan supports various charities, such as Campfire USA, a non-profit organization for children, and the Starlight Children's Foundation.

2001 saw another two nominations for Jonathan. This time for his portrayal of Tony Thompson in The Little Vampire. He was nominated for Best Performance in a Feature Film - Young Actor Age Ten or Under at the Young Artist Awards, and Best performance by a Younger Actor at the Saturn Awards.

Jonathan loves sport, one of his favorite's being water polo which until recently he played for his high school team. He also really likes basketball and says that his favorite team is the LA Lakers. In the past Jonny has classed skateboarding as one of his favorite hobbies and once said that his best skateboarding move was the 50 50 grind. Jonathan still enjoys skating but is not as involved with it as he once used to be.

Jonathan's sister, Alexis, was born October 1 1987, making her three years his senior. It was Alexis that first got Jonathan into acting, and she has appeared along side him in minor parts in two of his movies. She was a wedding guest in Jerry Maguire and a background vampire in The Little Vampire.

Jonathan is a keen drummer, and owns a set of oyster blue drums. In early 2005 Jonathan was drummer in a four-piece band at his school called Thanx Mr. Unfortunately the band split up as a couple of members were changing schools. In 2006, however, Jonathan joined a new band called Warfrog. Warfrog also had four members, including the same bassist from Jonny's previous band Thanx Mr. After only one performance Jonathan felt he had to resign as drummer due to work and water polo commitments. Jonathan is not currently in any bands but practices his drums regularly, and luckily, unlike most parents in their situation, Jonathan's mom and dad support his drumming.

In late 2004 Jonathan was cast alongside Sir Ben Kingsley in a Warner Bros. movie, Knights Of Impossingworth Park, which was to be a family film about a young Asian girl called Christine, who was visited by a 1000-year-old knight. Jonathan, who was to play the character of Mike, met Sir Ben Kingsley in 2005, and the two were very much looking forward to working together on the film in England and Vietnam. Shooting for Knights Of Impossingworth Park was postponed from 2005 due to Kingsley's other commitments, and rescheduled to be shot sometime during 2006. Unfortunately the film was eventually cancelled due to lack of funding.

In 2006, Jonathan was to take on his first professional role as co-producer on a feature-length documentary called After School, about the rise in the number of young female teachers having affairs with their teenage students. The documentary was to include a short film in which Jonathan would play the role of a student being seduced by his teacher. It was later decided that the short film would not be featured. Jonathan was asked to stay on as co-producer, but declined the offer due to other commitments.

Rhonda, Jonathan's mother, has always been interested in acting and used to act in plays when she was at school. She also worked as co-producer on Jonathan's first independent movie, When Zachary Beaver Came To Town, and was to work as associate producer on the documentary After School, but due to other commitments to Jonathan's career she did not stay on.
